March Ministry Updates

 Hope everyone is doing well and that they have had a good February! I am excited to share some fun moments from this past month with you guys. We got to have a super cool event that honored Black History, got to have a worship night about God's love for us, and my birthday was this month! It was a fun filled 28 days! 

Proud of our students 

One of our students Anna Melton gave a Ted Talk this month on motivation, and what motivates us. It was so cool that she as a Sophomore was able to present at this conference. Some of us girls went and supported her doing this! 

RELEASE 

   A pastor with UTD has formed this internal group with FOCUS called B.L.I.S.S, which stands for Black Lives in Soulful Solidarity. This month B.L.I.S.S put on a show called RELEASE in honor of black history month, there was a Kickin Brass Band from New Orleans, some students who sang the Negro National Anthem which I had never heard of! It was a free event and was a total packed house, probably around 300 people there from all over the DFW metroplex.                                                                                          

 Birthday Bash 

I turned 25 this month! I haven't thrown a birthday party in SO LONG. I went all out and threw a Taylor Swift Eras party, it was so fun to have so many of my friends there to celebrate!

 

Student Highlight

This is Sonnie! She is in my core this year and I get to spend weekly time with her! She has a deep heart for Jesus, and people. She sings worship and has most of her life. She recently got invited to Student Institute of Campus Ministry or SICM as we call it. I am super proud of her and how she has grown in being a leader! 

NEED YOUR HELP 

 If you haven't heard yet, the Department of Education is planning to remove language from a regulation that explicitly protects religious student organizations like FOCUS on higher education campuses. What can you do about it? The public has until March 24th to make any comments regarding this proposed amendment.  I have included this link to a page on our website that helps with helpful language and just making it super easy! I left a comment and it took me LESS than five minutes.
